Daniel Bear Davis is co-director of Shah and Blah Productions (myspace.com/shahandblahproductions), a dance theatre company based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shah and Blah combine movement, text, theatre, image, video, and whatever other media necessary to create a psychologically relevant and visually rich exploration of the human experience. In June, Shah and Blah was in residency at The Dead Cow Gallery in Santa Cruz, where they created Discourse Off The Walls – 24 days in a row of new performance work.

Daniel’s solo, Cusp, was born during this exploration of performance as practice and is literally getting the chance to fly at Half Machine. The solo was originally presented in a small art gallery with elastics tied from Daniel’s body to ceiling beams, simultaneously restricting and expanding his potential of movement and generally creating a sense of suspension in time and space. During Half Machine, Cusp will be presented in a welded metal globe suspended in the air.

A video of the solo as it existed on the ground in the gallery is “here”:

He will also create other improvised performance work throughout the event.

After Half Machine, Daniel rejoins The Carpetbag Brigade Physical Theatre Company at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival to complete their European Tour.
